Columbia Surgical Associates has provided specialty surgical care to the people of mid-Missouri since Dr. E. J. Schewe founded the practice in 1962. Our board certified surgical specialists have a total of over 65 years of experience in the practice of surgery. We specialize in the surgical treatment of a variety of health problems including diseases of the breast, gallbladder and intestinal tract, benign and malignant tumors and hernias. We offer bariatric surgery as part of a comprehensive weight loss program. Our vascular surgeons treat diseases of the arteries, such as aneurysms and periperal vascular disease. The Vein Center offers treatment for venous problems such as varicose veins. We are also dedicated to improving the quality of health care through education. Columbia Surgical Associates is pleased to sponsor an annual educational seminar for primary care physicians. We also participate in the training of residents from the University of Missouri and have participated in educational presentations at the state, national, and international level.

Since 1990, Columbia Surgical Associates has actively pursued the development of minimally invasive surgical procedures. These techniques offer many of our patients the benefits of less discomfort, shorter hospitalizations and quicker recoveries. Minimally invasive procedures are now routinely offered to many patients requiring bariatric, breast, colon, gallbladder, hernia and vascular surgery.
