Dr. Laks joined Columbia Surgical in 2009. He is a native of Michigan; he graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors of Science, and completed his Medical School at Sackler School of Medicine. He finished his internships and surgical residency at Saint Louis University Hospital. While at Saint Louis University, he served as Administrator Chief Resident, and received the Dr. Kaminski Excellence in General Surgery Education Award. He is board certified in General Surgery. He and his wife and two children moved to Columbia in 2009, where his wife is a student of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri.
Since coming to Columbia, he has been expanding on minimally invasive techniques in general and endocrine surgery. He has introduced Single Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomies and Appendectomies. He is also the first to introduce Minimally Invasive Video Assisted Thyroidectomies and Parathyroidectomies. His areas of interest are Endocrine surgery including surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, and adrenals, and Surgical Oncology including major and minor hepatic resections, pancreatectomies, melanoma, and sarcoma. He is also involved and active in breast and general surgery. He is also involved in the education of surgical and family practice residents in the community.
